Raiden is a quiet, calm warrior who has a dark and terrible past. He rarely even speaks of his current emotional state to anyone, so it is incredibly difficult for him to open up for anything other than combat. However, during any bout with an opponent Raiden shows his personality, albeit still calm and stonelike in his expressions. He uses not only psychological training from his upbringing, but also nano machines to suppress his severe PTSD. In the cases where he remotely disables the nano machines, he has been known to become vicious and unforgiving, becoming the murderous soldier that he was trained to be.

Raiden grew up as a boy named Jack. In the warring country of Senso he was raised as a child soldier, performing atrocities at a young age during the conflict. He finally escaped his captors, enlisting with the military in their espionage department. He went through extensive training in multiple martial arts and war tactics, becoming the top agent of the Senso military, that was until an event occured that shook him to his very core. The death of someone dear to him. It caused him to desert the military, going off the grid in his mourning, spending several years wandering as a ronin around the small country, performing acts of redemption. Though the acts of redemption usually were wanton slaughter, the targets were factions of the mercenaries that had destroyed his childhood. It would be after the collapse of the Senso government that he would return, finally cutting down the leader of the mercenaries and ending their two day reign over the country. The government was re-established, and the research and development department was built to create soldiers like Jack. He received the codename "Raiden", the Lightning Bolt, abandoning the previous moniker he had of Jack the Ripper.

Having nothing to lose, he signed up for the cyborg ninja project, having almost his entire body changed to that of a cybernetic warrior, almost everything in his body being replaced with machinery and cybernetics. He was sent on small, low profile missions to keep the project underwraps. After several years of improvements and upgrades, he retired from the military, leaving the country behind and setting off for Utopia, applying to teach. He wanted to put the military life behind him, and now did everything he could to forget that life.
