Pikachu was hatched just two years before the time of this writing, once a Pichu. He was raised by his parents in a distant land, until war ravaged the land and caused him and his parents to escape the country. There were many like him, but most were captured, viewed as potential power sources for war machines. By the time he had hitched a ride on a cargo vessel out of the country, it had been a year and a half of hiding as the borders of the land expanded outward as the armies occupied more of the countryside. His parents were captured before they could board the vessel and escape, leaving the young Pichu on the boat as it sailed off. Pichu was found and taken in by a crew member, who fed and cared for Pichu until he returned to his cabin to find that it had changed into the form it has today. Pikachu was happy with his new friend, who treated him not as a pet, but as a friend.

However, a jealous co-worker found out about Pikachu and reported him to the Captain, who met with the crew member who found Pikachu. The Captain agreed to let Pikachu off at the next port, instead of throw him to sea, so the lad who took care of him for half a year released him on the ports neighboring the land of Eden, where he watched his friend sail away, never to be seen again.

But, he got over it. He's a Pikachu!

Pikachu then spent the next half a year roaming Eden, having several misadventures involving a restaurant cook wanting to eat him, causing him to move further inland, towards the Academy that lied within the deeper parts of the Kingdom.
